ECO PRO mode

ECO PRO mode permits fuel savings of up to 20%, without you having to take any action. The overall saving is converted into mileage and displayed as a bonus range in the on-board computer. As a result, it is possible to see what distance can be covered at all times.

ECO PRO mode ensures that the accelerator pedal, transmission parameters and heating/climate control strategy are all intelligently adapted. ECO PRO tips help you to enhance your own driving behaviour and the bonus range informs you of how many additional miles you have gained.

Brake energy regeneration

Brake energy regeneration.


As you press down on the brake, energy is produced. Brake energy regeneration transforms it into electrical energy and uses it to charge the battery. This means less effort is also required from the engine to charge the battery, which in turn reduces fuel consumption and emissions.

Electric power steering

Electric power steering.


With electric power steering, an electric motor replaces the hydraulics and only becomes active when the driver moves the steering wheel. On straight roads or with a constant steering angle in corners, the system does not intervene and uses no energy, thus reducing fuel consumption.

Energy-saving technologies for efficient driving pleasure.


Different situations demand individual actions. Energy-saving technologies such as the Optimum Shift Indicator or the Automatic Stop/Start function help the driver to choose a better course of action and thus drive more efficiently.

Choosing the right moment to change gear is key to efficiency. The most efficient gear at any point in time is calculated according to the driving situation together with the engine speed and then shown in the Info Display.

The system also recognises rapid acceleration and will delay its recommendation accordingly until the engine speed is up. Comparative tests have shown that vehicles with the Optimum Shift Indicator use around 4% less fuel.

Auto Start-Stop ensures that fuel is only consumed when the car is moving. When the vehicle comes to a temporary stop, such as in congested traffic, Automatic Start-Stop saves fuel by switching off the engine. As soon as the clutch is depressed (manual transmission) or the brake is released (Steptronic transmission), the engine automatically starts again in a fraction of a second.

Whenever the driver takes their foot off the accelerator without braking, the Coasting function (part of ECO PRO mode) cuts the power between the engine and drive in vehicles with an automatic transmission. The vehicle rolls along without any resistance from the engine, which rotates at idle speed consuming minimum fuel and with low emissions.

Route-ahead assistant is an ECO PRO mode function and helps the driver to adopt an extremely efficient way of driving. In conjunction with the Professional Navigation System, it recognises speed limits, city limits, bends, roundabouts, turns and motorway exits along the chosen route. It also gives tips in advance about when to reduce speed.
